MEMBERSHIP
Young Scholars Academy serves children from infants
(6 weeks) to Eighth grade. Admission of exceptional or handicapped
children is decided on an individual basis as qualified staffing is
available. This facility does not permit discrimination because of race,
color, sex, age, special needs or national origin.
GENERAL
INFORMATION
Young Scholars
Academy, School for Young Children, a Houston Independent School
District Charter Affiliate is licensed by the Texas Department of
Protective and Regulatory Services and operates as a four-star school
with the Texas Workforce Commission. As an early education school for
young children, we offer developmentally appropriate programs: infants
(6 weeks), toddlers, transition-to-preschool, preschool,
pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten through eighth grades, and
after-school. Because we are family-centered, parents are encouraged to
participate in all aspects of our program. We are opened Monday through
Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Membership includes breakfast, lunch and
a snack.
SCHOOL-AGE
PROGRAM
Young Scholars offers a private
school (Young Scholars Academy) and public school (Young Scholars
Academy for Excellence Houston Independent School District Charter
School) for pre-school through eighth grades. Eighth grade will be added,
Fall 2007-2008. Because Young Scholars is a school of choice Preschool,
Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten slots are awarded based on families’
commitment to high quality early education. Parent involvement and
student attendance is a must! School hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00
p.m. Children are tardy at 8:05 a.m. Tuition for each program is
available upon request.
ENROLLMENT
PROCEDURES
A tour and parent/child intake
(orientation) are required for admission to all programs. Tours are
provided Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Intake may be
scheduled with the secretary. Intake entails completing required
enrollment/financial forms, submitting immunization records, meeting
child’s teacher, orientation of policies, procedures, curriculum, and
answering any questions.
WAITING LIST
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Young Scholars Academy operates from
a waiting list in each classroom. Availability of all slots is
first-come, first-served. In addition to submitting waiting list
application, a non-refundable processing fee is required to place
child’s name on waiting list.
FINANCIAL
PROCEDURE
A financial membership agreement
must be completed with financial secretary. Payment is
required in advance of services (Fridays for the following week; not
later than Monday 12:00 noon), no exceptions. Accounts that are past due
will be automatically charged a late tuition penalty, per day.
Continued violation of the financial
membership policy will result in dismissal from school.
Please note, because our operating costs are based on annual
membership projections all schedules are fixed. Thus, we do not offer
schedule alternatives/addendums or reduction in tuition due to absences
of any kind, work schedule conflicts, holidays, inclement weather days,
etc.
WITHDRAWAL
PROCEDURE
Withdrawal from Young Scholars, for
any reason, requires two week written notice for parent paying weekly
and one month for parents paying monthly. Failure to comply will result
in re-enrollment fee.
HOLIDAYS
New Year’s Day, Good Friday,
Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Friday
after Thanksgiving, Christmas Break. |
